Harnessing your vision to drive and execute on strategy

Build the right product
A guiding principle of the product manager is to "build the right thing," not wasting expensive development cycles building functionality that isn’t valuable (doesn't resonate with users or advance business objectives). To minimize waste and maximize value, we implement a framework to assess the value of individual features, prioritizing so that highest value features are built first. Through validation, we ensure that no feature gets built unless we have proof that it will resonate with users. We ship to users early and often, managing Lean releases so that we are constantly learning from user feedback and data. We repeat this process until solutions are fully realized and have achieved desired outcomes.

Focus on outcomes
The Def Method product manager works with business stakeholders to understand the vision and develop a product strategy that brings that vision to life. A roadmap articulates how the product will achieve important outcomes for the business and solve significant problems for the user. The team leverages this to keep focus on the most strategic work. Our vision will be stable because we know exactly what problems we are solving, how the problems arise and for whom. Our solutions will evolve, driven by agility, recognizing the ability to learn and adapt is a key competitive advantage.

Agile execution
The product manager serves the team in the development process, conducting the strategic approach and communication in a highly complex and fast-paced environment. The team stays on track with a prioritized backlog of user-centric stories, each story capable of being shipped incrementally. The product manager regularly unblocks the team, helping make hundreds of decisions throughout, identifying decision ownership, quality and reversibility. For a product manager to be successful, the discipline of simplicity, the art of maximizing the amount of work not done, is essential.
